PM Modi talks to Israeli PM Netanyahu; voices worries about increasing tensions in Middle East

Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the ongoing Middle East conflict. PM Modi voiced his worries about the increasing tensions in West Asia, stressing that “terrorism has no place in our world.”

In a post on X, PM Modi underscored the importance of preventing “regional escalation and ensuring the safe release of all hostages,” reiterating India’s commitment to supporting efforts for an early restoration of peace and stability.

PM Modi’s phone call with Netanyahu occurs as the situation in the Middle East worsens. Israel has been consistently conducting air attacks on Hezbollah, a militant group in Lebanon supported by Iran, and has successfully targeted key leaders, including the group’s head, Hassan Nasrallah.

At the same time, Israel is preparing for a small-scale military campaign in Lebanon that will start soon, according to US officials as reported by the Washington Post.

Israel set to launch limited ground operation in Lebanon

Israel is set to launch a campaign that is anticipated to be less extensive than the 2006 Lebanon War, which was a month-long conflict initiated by a Hezbollah attack on July 12, 2006. During the 2006 conflict, Hezbollah militants assaulted an Israeli convoy, resulting in the deaths of three IDF soldiers and the capture of two, leading to a substantial Israeli military reaction involving widespread air, sea, and ground strikes on Hezbollah locations in Lebanon.

The Washington Post reported that this time, the main goal is to eliminate militant infrastructure near the border in order to reduce the danger to Israeli border communities. An Israeli official, who asked to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the topic, stated that Israeli forces carried out restricted missions in Lebanon on Monday.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
