PM Modi Cuts Short Saudi Visit After Pahalgam Terror Attack Kills 26
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cut short his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia following a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, including tourists and civilians. Government sources confirmed that PM Modi will return to India tonight and is expected to arrive early Wednesday morning.
As a result of the attack, the Prime Minister skipped an official dinner hosted by Saudi authorities in Jeddah. He had been scheduled to meet Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the two leaders discussed the Pahalgam attack during their interaction.
PM Modi was originally slated to return on Wednesday night. Upon his return, he is expected to convene a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday morning to assess the situation and consider further steps.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is currently in Srinagar, briefed the Prime Minister shortly after the attack and was instructed to take all necessary measures, including visiting the site of the attack.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi condemned the assault, stating, “I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected.”
He added, “Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice… they will not be spared. Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will only grow stronger.”
About the Attack
The attack occurred around 2:30 PM on Tuesday when a group of terrorists dressed in military fatigues opened fire on tourists at Baisaran, a picturesque meadow near Pahalgam often referred to as “Mini Switzerland.” It is one of the worst civilian-targeted terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years.
The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be a local front for the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the assault. Intelligence sources suspect that five to six heavily armed militants, including foreign terrorists believed to be Pakistani nationals, carried out the ambush after conducting surveillance of the site in advance.
The attack is thought to have been meticulously planned, with militants lying in wait for the right moment to strike. Investigative agencies believe Saifullah Kasuri, the deputy chief of LeT and close associate of wanted terrorist Hafiz Saeed, masterminded the operation.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the final death toll is still being verified and called the incident “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years.”
