Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the ambitious ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ on Tuesday as part of the broader initiative known as the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana. In his announcement, PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to sustainable development and improving the well-being of citizens through this pioneering initiative.
To familiarise the scheme among Indians, the prime minister said that the government will incentivize Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats to promote the installation of rooftop solar systems in their jurisdiction.
What is Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana?
With an estimated budget exceeding ₹75,000 crore, this landmark scheme is designed to illuminate one crore households nationwide by providing up to 300 units of free electricity each month. Under the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana,’ substantive subsidies will be extended directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, ensuring no financial burden on the people.
The scheme aims to incentivize the adoption of rooftop solar systems, empowering individuals to harness solar energy and contribute to the nation’s green energy agenda. The government strives to facilitate widespread participation in this transformative program through heavily concessional bank loans and streamlined processes facilitated by a National Online Portal.
