On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron inaugurated the new Indian consulate in Marseille, southern France, to a warm reception from the Indian community.
PM Modi and Macron met and spoke with members of the Indian community who had gathered outside the new embassy, waving Indian and French flags. They were greeted with the sound of dhols before the inauguration.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi and Macron, who arrived in Marseille from Paris on Tuesday night, paid their respects at the Mazargues War Cemetery to recognize the sacrifice of Indian soldiers who perished fighting in both World Wars.
The Prime Minister, who begins a three-day visit to France on Monday, is set to inspect the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, an international nuclear fusion partnership. Following his commitments in France, he will travel to the United States for a two-day visit.
