Pakistani troops unleashed 10 to 15 rounds of fire Wednesday evening in the Mendhar sector of the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in “heavy casualties” for the Pakistan Army. The Indian Army responded appropriately.
The magnitude of the damage on Pakistan’s side was not immediately known, but officials stated the enemy forces suffered “heavy casualties,” according to news agency PTI.
Pakistan violated the ceasefire in the Krishna Ghati sector a day after two Indian Army personnel, including a Captain, were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast caused by suspected terrorists near the LoC in Jammu district’s Akhnoor sector.
Since India and Pakistan extended the ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, ceasefire violations along the Line of Control have become extremely infrequent.
This was the first ceasefire violation of the year, and the fourth cross-border incident in five days.
According to PTI, a junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the Indian Army suffered minor injuries when he stepped on a landmine in the same sector this evening.
The JCO, a Mendhar native, was part of a patrolling unit that kept a tight watch on the LoC to prevent terrorist infiltration. The injured officer was transferred to a military hospital.
