Mob vandalise premises of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital

Nurses at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital protested on Thursday after a mob vandalised a section of the state-run facility where a trainee doctor was discovered dead last week. The hospital looked like a battle zone, with medical equipment and furniture looted in the emergency ward.

However, Kolkata Police stated that the crime scene of the 31-year-old doctor’s violent rape and murder was intact, and that nine persons had been arrested in connection with the atrocity.

Authorities reported that late on Wednesday night, a group of approximately 40–50 individuals, dressed in protest attire, broke into the hospital and damaged property. Police were shocked and used lathicharge and tear gas to scatter the crowd.

Kolkata police arrest 9 in connection with incident

The event occurred around midnight, when a number of women took to the streets as part of the ‘Reclaim the Night’ campaign to protest the doctor’s murder and congregated on hospital grounds.

Kolkata police have detained nine people in connection with the incident at RG Kar Hospital. Police have also retrieved multiple CCTV footages, which are currently being thoroughly analyzed, according to sources.

In a strongly worded statement, the Indian Medical Association blamed the authorities for negligence. The IMA said the mob attack was a bid to target young medical students protesting against the murder of the trainee doctor.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
