Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Affairs Yogesh Kadam confirmed that the attack on SBollywood actoraif Ali Khan was not orchestrated by an underworld gang but appeared to be a case of theft. Kadam also clarified that Khan had not requested any additional security coverage, though the police are prepared to provide it if needed. Meanwhile, Mumbai police continue to question individuals who resemble the attacker, with CCTV footage aiding their investigation.
Saif Ali Khan, 54, was attacked during a burglary at his Mumbai apartment on January 16, 2025. The assailant stabbed Khan six times, including two deep cuts near his spine. Khan underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital to remove a knife lodged in his thoracic spinal cord and repair leakage of spinal fluid. Following the procedure, Khan is reported to be out of danger.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning when Khan intervened in an altercation between the intruder and his maid. His wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two sons were present during the incident but were unharmed.

Mumbai police have detained a suspect in connection with the attack. The man, whose identity is yet to be established, was taken to the Bandra police station. He was detained after police questioned several individuals who resembled the attacker. The suspect was carrying a backpack similar to the one seen in CCTV footage from the actor’s building.
Maintaining that the attack was not linked to Underworld, the minister said a suspect detained in connection with the attack is not linked to any gang. ” This incident does not appear to have any connection to organized crim,.” The minister further revealed that theft seemed to be the sole motive behind the attack. “Saif Ali Khan has not informed the police about facing any threats nor has he sought security cover. If he requests security, the necessary procedure will be followed,” Kadam added.
