PM Modi announced Operation Sindoor as India’s decisive counter-terror campaign, following the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. He said the operation struck the heart of Pakistan’s terror infrastructure and marked a “new red line” in India’s fight against terrorism.

In his first national address following the ceasefire that ended nearly 100 hours of intense conflict with Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India will hold no discussions with Pakistan on Jammu and Kashmir — except to demand the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Speaking late Monday night, the Prime Minister praised the Indian armed forces for their courage and condemned the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, many of them civilians. Calling the attack “inhuman and unforgivable,” Modi said it demanded “strong and decisive action.”
“On May 7, the world witnessed our resolve take shape,” he said. “We struck their training camps. They never imagined India would respond. But when Indian missiles and drones penetrated deep into Pakistan, the foundations of terrorism began to shake. They wiped the sindoor off our sisters’ foreheads — we wiped out their terror strongholds.”
Modi revealed that the precision military campaign has been officially named Operation Sindoor, and said it had sent a global message: any assault on India would be met with swift and devastating retaliation.

He emphasized that India’s military operations had only been paused, not ended, and future action would depend entirely on Pakistan’s conduct. “Pakistan appealed for a ceasefire and promised it would refrain from further terrorist acts or military provocations. We considered this appeal — but let me be clear: our response has only been suspended, not withdrawn,” Modi said.
Rejecting any form of nuclear blackmail, the Prime Minister added, “India will not be cowed. Operation Sindoor is now our doctrine — a new red line has been drawn. If there is another attack on our soil, our response will be even more decisive.”
The Prime Minister made it clear that the new normal is unambiguous: India will retaliate against terrorism and those who support it, wherever they may be. “There is no difference between terrorists and their patrons,” he declared.

Modi accused Pakistan of responding to India’s counter-terror action by targeting civilian sites. “In their frustration, Pakistan aimed their weapons at our schools, gurdwaras, temples, and civilian homes. But once again, they exposed themselves. The world saw Pakistan’s drones and missiles fall apart mid-air, neutralized by our advanced air defence systems.”

Highlighting the effectiveness of India’s offensive capabilities, Modi said, “While Pakistan had prepared to fight at the borders, we struck at their core. Our drones and missiles crippled the air bases they were so proud of. Within the first three days, India had dismantled Pakistan’s ability to escalate. That is why they reached out to our Director General of Military Operations to seek a ceasefire.”
Over a hundred terrorists, including senior operatives and masterminds behind attacks on Indian soil, were eliminated during Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister added.
