A 20-year-old Muslim man, Suleiman Khan, was allegedly beaten to death by members of Hindutva groups in Jalgaon district after they saw him talking to a Hindu girl in a café. Police have arrested four people so far and are searching for the alleged mastermind and other suspects.
Suleman, 21, the son of a farmer from Chhoti Betawad in Jamner taluka, was abducted in broad daylight, assaulted at multiple locations, and dumped lifeless outside his home. His parents and sister were also beaten when they tried to intervene.Khan was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
According to witnesses, a mob of 9–15 men confronted him at a café just metres from the local police station, allegedly while he was with a 17-year-old girl from another community. They forced him into a vehicle, drove him to several spots, and repeatedly beat him before returning to his village for the final, fatal attack.
Having recently cleared Class 12, Suleman was preparing for police recruitment. The day he went to Jamner to submit his application—meant to mark the start of his career—became the day his life was cut short.
The incident sparked tension in Jamner, prompting heavy police deployment in sensitive areas. That night, Khan’s relatives and local residents gathered at the Jamner police station, demanding immediate arrests and strict action.

Police say old enmity between two groups may have played a role, but the possibility of an “inter-community relationship” being a factor is also under investigation. Suleiman’s family alleges that some of the accused are gau rakshaks (cow vigilantes).
Jalgaon Superintendent of Police Maheshwar Reddy told Maktoob Media that four men are in custody and five others are being tracked. “We are investigating from all angles,” he said.
