Naga groups demand transparency from authorities after Assam Rifles allegedly facilitated the movement of armed Kuki militants into Naga areas, sparking fear and mistrust.

A coalition of Naga organizations, including the Senapati District Women Association (SDWA), Poumai Naga Naotumai Me (PNM), and the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), has strongly condemned the Assam Rifles for escorting armed SoO Kuki militants into Naga territories in the early hours of 22nd February 2025. The incident, which took place in Senapati District, has sparked widespread concern over security and peace in the region.
The SDWA expressed deep alarm over the actions of the Assam Rifles, stating that the movement of armed militants under full security cover disrupts the peace and stability of the district. The association emphasized its full solidarity with the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) in seeking justice and transparency regarding the incident.
“This act by the Assam Rifles raises serious concerns and disrupts the peaceful environment of our land. We urge the authorities to clarify their intentions and ensure that neutrality and peace in our district are upheld,” stated R.N. Hah, President of SDWA.

Echoing similar concerns, the PNM denounced the Assam Rifles’ actions as reckless and provocative. “Senapati has remained a peaceful district despite the ongoing turmoil in Manipur. However, such actions create mistrust, fear, and unnecessary tension among communities. The Nagas have maintained a neutral stance and will not tolerate any attempt to drag us into the conflict between Kukis and Meiteis,” remarked P. Delilah Pao, President of PNM.
Naga Civil Groups Condemn Assam Rifles’ Conduct
The NPO also issued aAlso read: strong condemnation, expressing concern over the escalating tensions caused by the incident. The organization reiterated its stance against any form of terrorism or activities that threaten the well-being of the Naga people. While acknowledging the role of security forces in maintaining peace, the NPO urged the Assam Rifles to engage meaningfully with local communities and respect their sentiments.
