The chairman of Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran, is set to take on the additional position of chairman at Tata Electronics. This change occurs as Tata Electronics allocates approximately $14 billion for its foray into the semiconductor sector. Pending regulatory approvals, Chandrasekaran will succeed Banmali Agrawala, who has held this position for the past few years. Important Tata Sons figure Agrawala will now serve as an advisor to the group.

Randhir Thakur, a former Intel Foundry Services executive, was persuaded to join Tata Electronics as CEO and MD in 2023 largely thanks to his influence. Moreover, earlier this year, Srinivas Satya, who was formerly the country president of Applied Materials’ semiconductor products group, was named president of the components business and chief supply chain officer of Tata Electronics.

Tata Electronics: Leading India’s Electronics Manufacturing with Strategic Vision

With Chandrasekaran’s laser-like focus and these calculated hires, Tata Electronics is now positioned at the forefront of India’s electronics manufacturing industry. By bringing in 50–60 senior-level foreign workers with backgrounds in design, strategic planning, and semiconductor technology, the company has strengthened its workforce.

“The board of Tata Electronics now has the management width and heft to scale up the business. It is now wooing top tier global clients and may surpass growth expectations. The challenge earlier was talent and technology, and the company is chasing both aggressively to drive growth,” an executive close to the company said.

Neil Shah, vice president of Counterpoint Research, stated, “Tata Electronics will need a more strategic, measured, and bold approach moving towards the ‘One Tata’ vision laid out by Chandrasekaran since this is a completely greenfield territory for Tata.” “From semiconductor fabs to finished goods, electronics factories are a double digit billion-dollar opportunity and to ensure it has a strong pipeline will warrant a greater involvement from Mr Chandrasekaran himself,” he stated.

Tata Electronics Expands Operations, Seizing Opportunities in India’s Manufacturing Business

Tata Electronics, which was founded in 2020, is the only Indian supplier that assembles iPhone cases for Apple. The company has acquired a facility in Karnataka that was previously run by Taiwan’s Wistron and intends to expand its current facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. In addition, rumors have it that Tata Electronics wants to buy Pegatron’s Tamil Nadu plant in order to increase its production capacity.

Indian companies such as the Tata Group are taking advantage of opportunities to diversify and meet the demands of the market in the face of supply chain disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and shifting geopolitical dynamics. This is especially true as well-known brands look for alternatives to manufacturing in China.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
