Ravindra Jadeja picks 300th Test wicket; Morne Morkel praises India all-rounder
Morne Morkel, the bowling coach of Team India, praised Ravindra Jadeja as a versatile player who can ‘create magic’ during matches. Ravindra Jadeja achieved his 300th Test wicket milestone on Day 4 of the 2nd Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday, September 30th.
He took the last wicket of the Bangladesh innings by getting rid of Khaled Ahmed, sending the visitors packing for 233 runs on the fourth day. With this achievement, Jadeja joined Kapil Dev and R Ashwin as the only Indian cricketers to reach 3000 runs and 300 wickets in Test cricket.

“For me, he’s a complete package,” Morkel said. “He bats, he bowls, he’s a guy in the field that can make magic happen. Always a guy that you want in your team, and he’s done that for so many years for India,” Morkel told the media during the end of Day 4 press conference. “It’s quite special to be in this environment. Excited to see how they operate. I come to serve these players, share knowledge, share experience.”
Jadeja completes double of 3000-plus runs and 300-plus wickets in Tests
Jadeja has become the quickest Asian and the second-quickest player in history to achieve this prestigious double, reaching the milestone in just 74 Test matches. He is in second place behind England great Ian Botham, who achieved it in 72 games.
The versatile player also achieved the milestone of being the seventh Indian bowler to reach 300 Test wickets, placing him among illustrious names in Indian cricket history.
Jadeja has now become one of only 11 cricketers globally who have achieved the rare feat of scoring over 3000 runs and taking more than 300 wickets in Test matches. He has the second-highest bowling average among Indian bowlers with 200 or more Test wickets, just slightly lower than Ashwin’s 23.69. Jadeja has a better average than all spinners with over 200 Test wickets, except for Muthiah Muralidaran (22.72) and Ashwin.

This achievement solidifies Jadeja’s reputation as one of India’s finest all-rounders, just like the greats Kapil Dev and Ashwin. His reliable displays with bat and ball have been a great advantage for the Indian Test team, and his success in Kanpur is another notable achievement in his distinguished career.
