New Delhi, August 17 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated two landmark infrastructure projects in Delhi — the Delhi sections of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Dwarka Expressway — at a grand ceremony in Rohini around 12:30 PM. Together, these projects are worth nearly ₹11,000 crore and are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the capital while boosting regional connectivity across the NCR.
The inauguration was not only about cutting ribbons. It turned into a show of strength for the Prime Minister, with thousands gathering to witness the event, chanting “Modi! Modi!” as he addressed the crowd. The roar of approval symbolized the deep political and public resonance of infrastructure as a tool of transformation.
Speaking at the inaugural event in Rohini, the Prime Minister said the new projects will ease travel, save time, and bring greater convenience to traders, farmers, and residents of Delhi. He noted that infrastructure in Delhi-NCR has reached “world-class standards” over the last 10 years, giving people the benefit of smoother and faster connectivity.
“The effort to further develop Delhi is ongoing, and many more projects are in the pipeline,” he added.
PM Modi also highlighted that the expressway works have contributed to reducing Delhi’s garbage mountains while improving the quality of life for residents. He interacted with construction workers involved in the projects, appreciating their role in building infrastructure that will cut travel time, divert freight traffic from city roads, and ease congestion on the Inner and Outer Ring Roads.
Modi, without naming the Aam Aadmi Party, said Delhi has borne the brunt of poor planning and a lack of vision by its ruling administration. He noted that residents have long faced challenges of traffic congestion, pollution, and inadequate infrastructure, but assured that the BJP-led Centre is committed to closing these gaps. “The BJP will leave no stone unturned to make Delhi prosperous,” he asserted.
Besides the inauguration, the Prime Minister also reviewed detailed presentations from officials on the scope of the projects, which feature long tunnels, underpasses, and elevated corridors. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, who spoke at the event, said the projects were a direct outcome of the Prime Minister’s vision to decongest Delhi and strengthen connectivity within the national capital and the wider NCR region.
“These are state-of-the-art projects built with world-class design standards,” Gadkari noted, adding that the combined length of works under this single initiative amounts to 563 km.
