drug networks has also been initiated, signaling a determined effort to combat drug trafficking and protect Manipur’s youth from its harmful effects. The government’s resolve to create a drug-free Manipur is seen as a critical step in addressing the socio-economic and public health challenges posed by rampant narcotics trade in the region.
Security forces will be strategically deployed to maintain law and order, with reinforcements ready to be dispatched if needed. The government has also pledged strict legal action against any form of violence or unrest, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance on disruptions to peace. Additionally, relief camps for displaced families will be upgraded, ensuring access to essential supplies and improved living conditions.
A key focus of the government’s initiative is fostering reconciliation between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Dialogue-driven programs aimed at bridging divides and promoting lasting peace have been introduced, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to long-term harmony in Manipur.
The DMF has fully endorsed these measures and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts that lead to a peaceful, united, and prosperous Manipur.
Thadou Students’ Association Commends Government’s Actions
The Thadou Students’ Association (TSA-GHQ) has also lauded the government’s decisive steps, particularly the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur on February 13, 2025. This decision led to the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on February 9, 2025, and was seen as a necessary intervention to stabilize the state’s governance amid prolonged unrest.
In a high-level review meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on March 1, 2025, a comprehensive plan was laid out to address the security situation in Manipur. The TSA-GHQ sees this as a turning point in the ongoing crisis, offering renewed hope for the people of Manipur after nearly two years of turmoil.
The TSA has particularly praised the government’s directive to ensure free and unimpeded movement on all roads in Manipur from March 8, 2025. This long-awaited measure is expected to alleviate the hardships faced by the Thadou community, which has endured some of the most severe impacts of the conflict.
The association has also strongly supported the government’s action against extortion networks and its commitment to enhancing border security as a national priority. The dismantling of organized drug trafficking operations is seen as a monumental step in addressing the deep-rooted issues of drug abuse and illegal trade, which have long plagued Manipur’s communities. The TSA has emphasized that a drug-free Manipur is crucial to securing a brighter future for the state’s youth and ensuring long-term socio-economic stability.
Furthermore, the TSA has reiterated its stance on the distinct identity of the Thadou people. The organization has asserted that “Thadou is a distinct ethnic group and is neither Kuki nor a subset of Kuki.” It has rejected any attempts to misrepresent the Thadou people’s identity, citing the Thadou Convention Declaration of 2024 as a reaffirmation of their independent cultural and ethnic status.
