Manipur, a state grappling with persistent violence, has witnessed a renewed surge in security operations as forces intensify their crackdown on militant groups. In a series of coordinated operations conducted over the past week, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and other security forces have made significant strides in neutralizing militant activities and recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition.
Key Operations and Recoveries:
- Tengnoupal District: A joint operation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police led to the seizure of two large Pompi guns, grenades, IEDs, ammunition, and other military-grade items in Samukom Village.
- Churachandpur District: Indian Army and Manipur Police units recovered homemade weapons, including rockets and mortars, during a search operation on the Thanjing ridge. Additionally, a separate operation in Bishnupur district yielded an SLR rifle, a .303 rifle, and grenades.
- Imphal West District: Security forces seized a 9mm carbine machine gun, a grenade launcher, a 9mm pistol, and ammunition in the Thingom area.
- Kakching District: A joint team of Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and BSF recovered a .22 rifle and ammunition in Utangpokpi.
Fierce Clashes and Casualties:
In a major confrontation, security forces engaged in a fierce gun battle with militants in Jiribam district, resulting in the death of 10 militants. A CRPF jawan was also injured during the exchange of fire.
