Unidentified gunmen opened fire near COIUR College, prompting a rapid response from the Churachandpur Police. Three arrests were made, but the incident highlights the fragile security situation in Manipur’s Kuki-Zo dominated district.

April 26, 2025 – The Churachandpur District Police have arrested three persons, including two police constables, following a shooting incident near COIUR College on April 24, which sparked panic in the area.
According toa police release. , at around 2:40 AM, unidentified miscreants in a white car opened fire near the COIUR College campus, close to the G/240 CRPD campus and Old DC Guest House. The assailants fired four rounds into the air before fleeing the scene. A sentry from the G/129 Bn. CRPD, stationed at the main gate, retaliated by firing one round from his rifle, but the suspects escaped.
The Police registered a case under FIR No. C096/2025 at COIUR P.S., citing violations of Sections 351(2)/3(5) BNS and 25(1-C) of the Arms Act.
The Police acted swiftly to apprehend the suspects. Utilizing security agencies, ground intelligence sources, and multiple CCTV cameras, the police identified and intercepted the vehicle involved in the incident around 13:00 hours on April 24, 2025. The primary suspect, identified as Mangkholen Haokip, was arrested, and a 9mm pistol used in the crime was recovered.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two accomplices, Paominthang Haokip and Thonglenkhai, who were also implicated in the shooting. Both of them are police constables. The investigation remains ongoing, with the Churachandpur Police working alongside 19 Garhwal Rifles and 58 CRPF to ensure public safety.
The Police have reiterated their dedication to curbing gun violence and maintaining order in the region. In a statement, Superintendent Pandey emphasized the priority of the investigation, noting that the incident caused panic among the general population. He urged the public not to believe unverified information and to assist security forces in ensuring peace. The police also warned that legal action would be taken against anyone involved in spreading misinformation.
