As Manipur grapples with the aftermath of violence, the chilling details of a family’s gruesome killing highlight the devastating toll of the conflict. The six victims, abducted from a relief camp and brutally murdered, reflect the human cost of deep-seated ethnic tensions. The incident has left communities grieving and the nation questioning the road to reconciliation and justice.

Following the heart-wrenching revelations from the autopsies of three members of a Meitei family abducted and killed by suspected Kuki militants, reports on the remaining three victims have emerged, painting an even more chilling picture of brutality.

The six bodies, including those of a 10-month-old infant and an eight-year-old girl, were discovered floating in the Barak River in Manipur’s Jiribam district. The autopsy findings from Silchar Medical College and Hospital reveal harrowing acts of violence inflicted on the family.

The infant, Laishram Lamnganba, was found with both eyeballs missing, his head dislocated, and his body in an advanced state of decomposition with a chopping wound. His remains, dressed in a T-shirt and vest, were received on November 17.

Eight-year-old Telen Thajanganbi sustained extensive injuries, including multiple bullet wounds to her abdomen. Thirty-one-year-old Telem Thoibi bore severe gunshot wounds, crushed scalp, fractured skull bones, and missing cranial membranes.

These revelations follow earlier autopsy details on three other family members. Three-year-old Chingkheinganba Singh had a bullet wound to his skull, a missing right eye, and severe lacerations on his body. His mother, L. Heitonbi Devi (25), suffered three gunshot wounds to her chest and one to her buttock, while his grandmother, Y. Rani Devi (60), had five gunshot wounds to her skull, chest, and abdomen. Both women also exhibited deep lacerations across their bodies.

The family had gone missing from a relief camp in Jiribam on November 11 after clashes between security forces and suspected militants, which resulted in the deaths of 10 insurgents.

The autopsy findings of two other victims, 64-year-old Laisram Baren Meitei and 71-year-old Maibam Kesho, revealed further evidence of torture. Kesho’s forearm and right hand had skin peeled away due to flame burns, while Meitei’s body exhibited severe burns, a charred face, and fragmented skull bones.

The gruesome nature of these killings has sent shockwaves across the region, with the autopsy reports laying bare the inhumanity and violence inflicted on the victims.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
