Thousands of Rounds Recovered: The coordinated operation unearthed over 10,000 rounds of ammunition, explosives, and warlike stores, marking a major breakthrough in the state’s counter-insurgency efforts.

BY PC Bureau

June 14, 2025 — In one of the most significant arms seizures in recent memory, the Manipur Police, in a coordinated intelligence-based operation alongside Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Indian Army, and the Assam Rifles, uncovered a vast cache of illegal weapons and ammunition during a pre-dawn operation conducted across five valley districts.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of arms and warlike stores in the outskirts of the valley regions, joint teams launched simultaneous search and recovery operations during the intervening night of June 13 and 14. The raids were meticulously planned and executed to target suspected arms dumps allegedly used by armed groups or criminal elements operating amid the ongoing instability in the region.

Magnitude of the Recovery

The teams recovered an astonishing 328 firearms, ranging from conventional rifles to sophisticated automatic weapons. The seized cache includes:

  • 151 Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs)

  • 65 INSAS rifles

  • 73 other rifles and carbines

  • 12 Light Machine Guns (LMGs)

  • 12 MP5 sub-machine guns

  • 6 AK-series rifles

  • 1 AR-15 rifle, a high-precision weapon

  • 2 flare guns, 6 pistols, and a mortar

In addition to firearms, security forces also seized a significant stock of ammunition:

  • 3,534 SLR rounds

  • 2,186 INSAS rounds

  • 2,252 .303 rifle rounds

  • 407 Amogh rounds

The combined seizure represents a major operational success in disrupting potential armed violence and reducing the risk of escalations in the ongoing unrest gripping Manipur.

A Boost to Peace and Order

The Manipur Police, while announcing the recovery, termed the operation a milestone in the ongoing efforts to restore normalcy, maintain law and order, and safeguard the lives and property of citizens. “These recoveries are the result of precise intelligence and close coordination with our security partners,” said a senior police official. “We remain committed to a peaceful and secure Manipur.”

The press note issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Manipur, called for public cooperation, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information about hidden weapons or explosives to the nearest police station or Central Control Room.

Coordinated Security Strategy

Sources confirmed that senior officers from multiple agencies worked in tandem to ensure smooth planning and execution of the search operations. The seizures, spread across multiple locations, underline not just the scale of illegal armament in the region but also the continuing efforts by armed groups to retain influence.

Officials indicated that more such operations would be carried out in the coming weeks as part of a sustained campaign to disarm illegal actors and rebuild trust among communities displaced or affected by the prolonged ethnic violence and security challenges in Manipur.

The Manipur Police emphasized that this is part of a larger strategy to stabilize the region, including counter-insurgency efforts, intelligence-driven patrols, and strengthening of community policing initiatives.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
