However, the road to this agreement was not without its obstacles. Purnea and Katihar, currently under the Janata Dal (United), posed challenges during the negotiation phase between the RJD and the Congress. The recent entrant, Pappu Yadav, had his eyes set on the Purnea Lok Sabha seat, backed by alleged assurances from Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. Nonetheless, the RJD ultimately clinched the seat, nominating JD(U) defector Bima Bharti, albeit without a formal announcement.
Bihar Mahagathbandan in Trouble After Bihar Seat-Sharing Formula
Following the seat-sharing pact, tensions surfaced within the alliance, especially concerning unilateral decisions by the RJD regarding candidate nominations. The absence of Tejashwi Yadav, the face of the RJD, during Mahagathbandhan’s press conference, added fuel to the speculations. Nonetheless, RJD spokesperson Manoj Jha assured that candidate announcements would follow shortly for pending constituencies.
Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav sought to quell discord, emphasizing the INDIA bloc’s unity and an equitable distribution of seats. He highlighted an understanding reached among the alliance partners during a meeting at Congress leader Mukul Wasnik’s residence. However, reports of discontent simmered within the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, particularly concerning the premature candidate announcements by the RJD.
As the electoral battle intensifies, the stage is set for a fierce showdown. With the NDA clinching 39 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Mahagathbandhan aims to turn the tide in its favor. The first phase of polling, scheduled for April 19, looms large, with nominations finalized for the initial four Bihar constituencies. While challenges persist, the Mahagathbandhan remains steadfast in its resolve to alter Bihar’s political landscape and emerge victorious in the forthcoming elections.
