The relationship between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has worsened after Sandeep Dikshit, former Member of Parliament and Congress candidate contesting against Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, accused Kejriwal of deploying intelligence personnel from Punjab to monitor his movements.
In a letter to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, Dikshit alleged that intelligence personnel from the Punjab Government had been visiting his residence, with their vehicles often seen parked outside. He further claimed that these actions were orchestrated at Kejriwal’s behest to disrupt the democratic process and hinder free and fair elections. In response, the Lieutenant Governor ordered an inquiry into the matter and requested a detailed report within three days.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated as AAP accused the Congress of collaborating with the BJP to derail its electoral prospects in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi alleged that Congress candidates were receiving financial backing from the BJP. In retaliation, AAP threatened to call upon the INDIA bloc leaders to expel Congress from the opposition alliance.
Lieutenant Governor Saxena has expressed grave concern over the allegations, underscoring the importance of ensuring that all candidates can participate in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections without fear or intimidation. A thorough inquiry has been directed to investigate Dikshit’s claims, with a comprehensive report expected within the stipulated timeframe.
