Amid increasing security concerns in Pakistan, the US Consulate in Lahore has released a security warning for American nationals in and near the city, referencing incidents of drone blasts, crashed drones, and potential airspace violations.
In a directive released on Tuesday, the consulate directed its staff to stay where they are and advised US citizens to either refrain from traveling to Lahore, exit the city, or seek safe shelter right away.
Official announcement and safety instructions
“Due to reports of drone explosions, downed drones, and possible airspace incursions in and near Lahore, the US Consulate General has directed all its Consulate personnel to shelter-in-place,” said the advisory.
Although the alert did not clarify the source or purpose of the drone activity, the unusual shelter-in-place directive indicates significant worry regarding aerial security risks in the area.
