February 12, 2026: Situation remains explosive in Litan Sareikhong village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, with a village-level Kuki-Zo organization flagging repeated incidents of arson targeting their homes amid escalating ethnic clashes between Kuki and Tangkhul Naga communities.
The Litan Sareikhong Village Authority said recent burnings, allegedly carried out by elements backed by NSCN-IM (National Socialist Council of Nagaland–Isak Muivah) and Tangkhul groups, have destroyed a large number of Kuki residences. Many families have been displaced, left vulnerable, and are living in constant fear.

The authority highlighted videos circulating online that reportedly show both armed cadres and civilians—including women—participating in the attacks. Reports also claim that NSCN-IM cadres have occupied parts of the village, setting up positions and bunkers even in sensitive civilian areas such as Sunday School campuses, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and insecurity.
Highlighting the severity of the attacks, the release added: “Disturbing videos circulating online show not only armed cadres but also civilians—including women—participating in the house burnings. NSCN-IM cadres have reportedly taken control of parts of the village, setting up positions and erecting bunkers even in sensitive civilian areas such as Sunday School campuses.”

Expressing disappointment over the “apparent inaction and selective response” of central and state security forces, the Village Authority said Kuki residents attempting to return home are being prevented, while those responsible for the burnings remain unchecked.
“We are deeply disappointed by the apparent inaction and selective response of both central and state security forces. Kuki villagers attempting to return home are reportedly being prevented, while those responsible for the burnings continue unchecked,” it said.
900+ more security forces sent… thousands already there… and still, in broad daylight, NSCN-IM burns Kuki homes in Litan Sareikhong to ashes.

In an urgent appeal, the authority called on the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, and all concerned authorities to deploy neutral security forces immediately, halt further violence, and protect civilians. It also demanded an independent inquiry to establish facts and hold perpetrators accountable.
The crisis stems from an incident on February 7 that escalated into widespread destruction and displacement, with mutual arson attacks reported and houses of both Tangkhul Naga and Kuki residents affected. Curfews have been imposed, and internet restrictions remain in place.
The Village Authority warned that continued inaction will only worsen tensions and prolong the suffering of innocent people, emphasizing the need for swift, responsible intervention to restore peace and safeguard human dignity.
