Highlighting significant concerns, National Commission for Women (NCW) member Archana Majumdar criticized the casual approach of the police, who asserted they were unaware of the victim’s location. In the meantime, the five-member STF has been expanded to nine members.
Archana Majumder, a member of the National Commission for Women, visited South Calcutta Law College on Sunday, the site of the horrific gang-rape of the 24-year-old law student.
Majumder accused Kolkata police of restricting her from meeting the law student. She claimed the police have “hidden the victim’s family” as well. Majumdar also accused the police of preventing her from taking pictures of the crime scene. “They are not allowing us to meet the victims, view the crime scene, nor have they permitted us to take any photographs.”

She mentioned that she plans to submit a report to the chairperson after meeting the complete commission in Delhi on Monday.
Rift within TMC
As the case progressed, instead of uniting, leading TMC figures began to clash, with inflammatory remarks, social media snubs, and a deep-seated animosity emerging.

Madan Mitra, an MLA from Trinamool Congress, has been issued a showcause notice by his party due to his comments regarding the rape survivor from Kolkata law college.
Mitra asked why the first-year student had visited the crime scene by themselves. Previously, the party had separated itself from the survivor-shaming comments made by Mitra and Kalyan Banerjee, labeling them as personal views.
The prime accused, Monojit Mishra, is not just an ordinary student — he is a prominent leader of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the student faction of the TMC, and is said to have links with several high-ranking party officials, including ministers Firhad Hakim and Abhishek Banerjee.

In her complaint, the survivor alleged that the accused induced her and threatened her with videos before she was raped in the guard room.
The Kolkata law college rape case has revived memories of the notorious RG Kar incident from almost a year prior, when a second-year post-graduate medical student was raped and killed within the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the nights of August 8 and 9, 2024.
