A ex-deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College has alleged that Dr Sandip Ghosh, who stepped down as principal following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, was engaged in various illicit actions, such as trafficking unclaimed bodies. During a private discussion with India Today TV, Akhtar Ali also claimed that the suspect in the murder case, Sanjoy Roy, who is a civic volunteer, was involved in providing security for the ex-principal.
‘Ghosh involved in trafficking biomedical waste to Bangladesh’: Ali
Ali also stated that Ghosh was involved in the trafficking of biomedical waste and medical supplies to Bangladesh.
“Sandip Ghosh used to engage in business involving unclaimed deceased individuals. He was also charged with a case. He was also implicated in the illegal transportation of biomedical waste. He used to vend it to those who were included in his extra safety measures. The ex-deputy superintendent mentioned that it was subsequently dispatched to Bangladesh,” the former deputy superintendent said.
Akhtar Ali, posted at RG Kar Hospital until 2023, reported illegal activities to the state vigilance commission and was involved in the investigation against Ghosh. He stated that the ex-principal was not disciplined despite the investigation proving his guilt.

Ali stated that he had filed a complaint with the state health department against Dr. Ghosh, but he was transferred from RG Kar Hospital on the same day.
“On the day I turned in the inquiry report, I was transferred. The remaining two members of this committee were also relocated. He mentioned that he tried his best to protect the students from the man, but he was unable to succeed.”
Ghosh received 20% commission for each tender
Sandip Ghosh, who stepped down in the midst of demonstrations regarding the doctor’s murder, was quickly offered a new position at Calcutta Medical College after his resignation. Nevertheless, the Calcutta High Court reprimanded the government for the issue and placed Ghosh on an open-ended leave.
Since January 2021, the Mamata Banerjee government has initiated a probe into claims of financial misconduct at the organization.
Ali also claimed that Ghosh asked for bribes in order to allow students to pass. Certain students were intentionally set up for failure. “He added that he could recover the money.”
Describing Ghosh’s method of operation, the ex-RG Kar staff member stated that he would receive a 20% commission for each tender. He also alleged that only Ghosh’s two close aides, Suman Hazra and Biplab Singha, received tenders related to hospitals.
