Rekha Gupta has been declared the new chief minister of Delhi, signaling the BJP’s return to power in the national capital after 27 years.

Rekha, a newly elected MLA, secured victory in the Shalimar Bagh constituency during the Delhi assembly elections, beating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by 29,595 votes. This win signified the conclusion of AAP’s ten-year dominance in the region.

Her political journey began in 1992 with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University.

During 1996-97, she took on the role of President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), focusing on matters concerning students.

In 2007, Gupta became a councillor for North Pitampura, where she contributed to enhancing local amenities such as libraries, parks, and swimming pools.

She also initiated the “Sumedha Yojana” to assist economically disadvantaged female students in pursuing higher education. In her role as Chair of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, she spearheaded programs aimed at empowering women.

Gupta additionally held the position of General Secretary for BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and was part of its national executive committee.

Rekha, aged 50, was born in 1974 in the village of Nandgarh, situated in the Jind district of Haryana.

Her father held a position as an officer at the State Bank of India. In 1976, when Rekha was only two, her family relocated to Delhi. She finished her education from primary to higher level in Delhi afterward.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
