Kamal Hassan’s ‘Indian 2’ rakes in Rs 26 crore at domestic Box Office
Indian 2, the Kollywood film starring Kamal Hassan opened in theaters on Friday, July 12, in two languages: Hindi and Telugu. The Hindi title is Hindustani 2, and the Telugu title is Bharateeyudu 2.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the sequel to the 1966 Indian film grossed ₹26 crore on its release day in the domestic market. Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’, which released on the same day, had a significantly lower Box Office collection of ₹2.4 crore (net).
On Friday, the film, co-produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies, received an overall Tamil occupancy of 55.62 percent. On Day 1, Trichy city topped the pack in Tamil (2D) occupancy with 81 percent, followed by Chennai and Coimbatore at 68.5 percent and 68.25 percent, respectively.

Kamal Hassan plays a freedom fighter in the movie
In the movie, Kamal Hassan plays Senapathy, an elderly independence fighter. The protagonist, armed with India’s ancient martial art practice known as ‘Varma kalai,’ is determined to combat corruption.
Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, S J Suryah, and Bobby Simha play key roles in one of filmmaker Shankar’s most ambitious ventures, in addition to the lead actor Kamal Hassan. The film also stars Gulshan Grover, the late Nedumudi Venu, Kajal Aggarwal, and Priya Bhavani Shankar.

The movie marks reunion of Kamal Haasan and director S Shankar
The Tamil film, produced on a ₹150 crore budget, reunites Kamal Haasan and director S Shankar. The script was co-written by Shankar, B Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu, and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar.
Film trade analyst Ramesh Bala, in a social media post on platform X (formely Twitter), stated, “#Indian2 becomes the 23rd Tamil movie to join the $1 Million club in North America.”
Taran Adarsh, another film trade analyst, gave the film a negative rating, writing on X, “Interesting ideas don’t always make for interesting films… Archaic writing is the biggest culprit here… Director #Shankar misses a golden opportunity… Even #KamalHaasan’s wonderful act cannot salvage it. #Hindustani2Review #Indian2.”
