After dealing with the horrific killing of 26 tourists in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam and the escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan, the Union Territory administration is now gearing up for another month-long challenge of holding an incident-free Amarnath Yatra beginning from July 3.
To review the current security scenario and assess the security requirements, the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, chaired a meeting of the Unified Command in Srinagar on Tuesday.
The 38-day-long Yatra will commence simultaneously from both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, and it will culminate on August 9 on the day of Raksha Bandhan.
The meeting of the Unified Command was attended by top Army, Police, and intelligence agency officials, along with the Chief Secretary.

A thorough assessment was made in the backdrop of the Pahalgam attack and the fragile peace prevailing along the Line of Control and the International Border post Operation Sindoor.
In recent years, the UT administration requisitioned 400–500 companies of the central paramilitary forces for the Yatra duty.
This year too, the UT administration is likely to demand a similar number of companies to ensure effective area domination along the Yatra track and the yatri base camps.
Chairing the meeting, the LG issued necessary instructions to the officers of the security grid to completely dismantle the terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah earlier said that the UT government is also focusing on ensuring an incident-free Amarnath Yatra.
Interacting with the media in Srinagar, Omar said on Saturday, “Right now, our focus is on the Amarnath Yatra — we want it to pass incident-free, and for all the yatris to return safe and sound. After that, we will look into ways to promote tourism,” he said.
According to official sources, more than three and a half lakh devotees have registered themselves to undertake the Yatra this year.
