Amid concerns that terrorists could exploit the compromised infrastructure to infiltrate Indian territory, security forces have heightened vigilance to prevent any such attempts.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and Border Security Force (BSF) Additional Director General (ADG), Western Command, S S Khandare conducted separate high-level reviews of security arrangements along the India-Pakistan border in the Jammu region on Friday, following devastating flash floods triggered by record rainfall earlier this week.

The inspections, focused on assessing the impact of the floods on border infrastructure, come a day before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s anticipated visit to the region to evaluate the situation.

Official sources revealed that the unprecedented rainfall caused widespread flooding in low-lying areas, resulting in significant loss of life and property. The deluge has inflicted extensive damage to the border security grid, including fencing and outposts along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts.

On 29-30 Aug 2025, Shri Satish S. Khandare, IPS, ADG BSF Western Command, along with IG BSF Jammu Frontier, visited flood-affected border areas of Akhnoor & RS Pura, Jammu. Amid concerns that terrorists could exploit the compromised infrastructure to infiltrate Indian territory, security forces have heightened vigilance to prevent any such attempts.

DGP Nalin Prabhat, accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shobhit Saxena, visited forward areas in Kathua district.

BSF officers briefed the police Chief on the extent of damage to critical border infrastructure caused by the floods. Prabhat commended the BSF for its swift and commendable relief efforts in supporting flood-affected villages along the border, officials said.

Simultaneously, BSF ADG S S Khandare inspected forward posts in the R S Pura sector of Jammu district, assessing the flood-induced damage to border installations. Accompanied by BSF Inspector General, Jammu Frontier, Shashank Anand, and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Chitar Pal, Khandare received detailed briefings on the ground situation and the BSF’s ongoing rescue operations in the border areas.

The ADG’s visit underscored the force’s commitment to maintaining robust security despite the natural calamity.

The back-to-back visits by senior security officials reflect the urgency of restoring and reinforcing the border security apparatus in the wake of the floods. The damage to fencing and outposts has raised concerns about potential vulnerabilities, prompting security forces to maintain a state of high alert to counter any infiltration attempts by terrorists seeking to capitalize on the situation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to arrive in the region on Saturday to take stock of the flood aftermath and review security measures. His visit follows a series of high-level security assessments in response to escalating challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, including recent terror incidents and the ongoing threat of cross-border infiltration. The coordinated efforts of the J&K Police and BSF, under the leadership of DGP Prabhat and ADG Khandare, highlight the critical importance of securing the border while addressing the humanitarian crisis caused by the floods. As the region braces for Shah’s visit, authorities remain focused on ensuring both the safety of residents and the integrity of the nation’s borders.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
