June 24, 2025 — Doha: In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Iran launched a series of missiles late Monday night targeting U.S. military installations in Qatar, with the primary strike hitting Al Udeid Air Base—America’s largest military facility in the Middle East. The strike, confirmed by Iranian and U.S. officials, was described by Tehran as a “devastating and proportional” response to recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The missile barrage prompted Qatar to shut its airspace, with explosions reported across Doha and Lusail. Eyewitnesses and local journalists described flashes lighting up the night sky as projectiles flew overhead. Al Udeid, which houses over 10,000 U.S. troops and serves as a key logistics and command center for U.S. Central Command, sustained damage, though the extent of casualties or infrastructure loss remains unclear.
Iranian state television aired footage of the strike accompanied by patriotic music, labeling the attack a “mighty and successful response” to U.S. aggression. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council released a statement claiming the number of munitions used mirrored those dropped by the U.S. in its earlier strike, emphasizing that the operation was carefully calibrated to avoid civilian zones and did not threaten Qatar, which Tehran described as a “friendly and brotherly nation.”

The Pentagon has not yet confirmed the full scope of damage but said it is assessing the situation. Washington condemned the strike and warned of consequences. “We will hold Iran accountable for its reckless escalation,” a White House spokesperson stated.
This strike follows days of mounting hostility in the region. Earlier this month, U.S. forces conducted precision strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities after intelligence suggested advanced enrichment activity in defiance of international agreements. Israel is also believed to have launched separate attacks on key Iranian military and intelligence sites, including the Evin Prison in Tehran.

The geopolitical stakes have risen sharply. Qatar, a long-time U.S. ally, condemned the attack but stopped short of blaming Iran directly. Regional observers warned that the assault could further destabilize Gulf security and imperil international energy routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil passes.

Russia, meanwhile, defended Iran’s right to retaliate, while NATO and European allies called for restraint. The United Nations is expected to convene an emergency Security Council session later this week to address the crisis.
The coming days are likely to test the limits of U.S. deterrence and Iran’s willingness to challenge it, as the Gulf inches closer to the brink of wider conflict.
