At least 10 US troops were injured in a missile and drone attack on Prince Sultan Air Base, with key refueling aircraft also damaged. In Israel, a cluster munition strike killed one civilian and wounded others, adding to the growing toll from weeks of missile barrages.

March 28, 2026: Iran widened its military campaign across the Middle East overnight, launching coordinated missile and drone attacks on Israel, US forces in Saudi Arabia, and targets in the Gulf, including the United Arab Emirates, in one of the most expansive escalations of the conflict so far.
In Israel, a barrage of Iranian ballistic missiles struck multiple مناطق, with one deadly attack reported in central parts of the country late Friday. Authorities said the missile carried a cluster munition warhead, dispersing bomblets across a wide area. One of the submunitions killed a man in his 60s who was outside a shelter, while another hit a residential building, injuring two others.
Emergency services reported at least six impact sites linked to the strike. Earlier in the evening, two more civilians in southern Israel were wounded by falling debris from an intercepted missile. The latest wave of attacks forms part of a sustained campaign that has seen Iran fire hundreds of missiles at Israel since the war began in late February, overwhelming defenses in some instances despite a high interception rate.
Simultaneously, Iran targeted US military assets in the Gulf. At least 10 American service members were wounded in a missile and drone strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, with two reported to be in serious condition. The attack also damaged several US refueling aircraft stationed at the base, underlining the vulnerability of critical logistics infrastructure.

The strike on the Saudi base is part of a broader pattern of Iranian attempts to hit US-linked military facilities across the region, including repeated efforts to target the same base earlier in the conflict.
Further widening the фронт, the United Arab Emirates said its air defence systems were actively intercepting incoming Iranian missiles and drones. In an official statement, the defence ministry confirmed that forces were engaging “cruise missiles and UAVs,” indicating that Gulf states remain under direct threat as Tehran presses its offensive deeper into the region.
Previous waves of Iranian attacks on the UAE have largely been intercepted, though debris and occasional impacts have caused civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure, highlighting the persistent risks even when defenses are effective.
The multi-front assault comes as Israel continues to carry out strikes inside Iran, including reported operations targeting military-linked sites in Tehran. The conflict, which began on February 28 following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, has since evolved into a region-wide confrontation involving direct attacks across multiple countries.
With Iran now simultaneously striking Israeli population centres, US military bases, and Gulf states hosting Western assets, the scope of the war appears to be expanding rapidly—raising fears of a prolonged and more destabilising regional conflict.
