Unverified reports suggest 22 personnel may be missing after the alleged strike, raising concerns about a new international dimension to the conf

March 28, 2026: Iran has claimed it carried out a series of missile and drone strikes deep into the Gulf, targeting what it described as a Ukrainian-linked air defence facility and concealed US military positions in Dubai—assertions that, if verified, would mark a sharp escalation in the widening regional conflict.
According to Iran’s state-linked Fars News Agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had destroyed a Ukrainian anti-drone system depot operating in the emirate. Iranian sources alleged the facility was part of a broader effort to counter drone threats in the region, though no details were provided on its exact location or operational role.
Unconfirmed reports circulating alongside the claim suggest that as many as 22 personnel may be missing following the strike. However, there has been no official confirmation from Ukrainian authorities or the UAE government, and independent verification remains unavailable.

The reported targeting of a Ukrainian-linked asset—if accurate—would introduce a new international dimension to the conflict, extending its reach beyond regional actors and into the broader geopolitical tensions linked to the war in Eastern Europe.
Claims of Strikes on US Personnel
In a parallel announcement, Iranian officials said they had struck two locations in Dubai allegedly being used by US forces as temporary “hideouts” after earlier attacks on American bases elsewhere in the region.
A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters claimed that more than 500 US troops were stationed across the two sites—approximately 400 at one location and 100 at another. The IRGC described the operation as a “precise” missile and drone strike that resulted in heavy casualties.
These claims have not been corroborated by the United States or Emirati authorities.
The rhetoric accompanying the announcement was notably sharp, with Iranian officials warning that continued US presence in the region would lead to severe consequences, framing the Gulf as increasingly unsafe for American forces.
Mounting Regional Fallout
The assertions come amid intensifying instability across key Gulf transit routes. Maritime operations have already begun to feel the strain, with disruptions reported near critical shipping corridors linked to the Strait of Hormuz—a chokepoint for global energy supplies.

Shipping giant Maersk temporarily halted operations at Oman’s Port of Salalah after a security incident damaged port infrastructure. While no casualties or vessel damage were reported, the disruption underscores how quickly the conflict is spilling into commercial and logistical networks.
Iran Signals Shift Toward UAE
Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported that Tehran may be ending its previous restraint toward the UAE, accusing it of supporting hostile operations against Iran. While details remain vague, the messaging suggests a potential broadening of Iran’s target set within the Gulf.
India Watches Closely
In New Delhi, officials are monitoring the situation closely. An informal group of ministers led by Rajnath Singh is scheduled to review the implications of the escalating crisis, particularly its impact on India’s energy security, diaspora, and trade routes.
A Conflict Expanding Faster Than It Can Be Verified
At this stage, many of Iran’s claims—including the reported Ukrainian facility strike and the missing personnel—remain unverified. Neither the UAE, the United States, nor Ukraine has issued detailed responses confirming the incidents.
But even without confirmation, the pattern is clear: the conflict is no longer contained. It is spreading—geographically, politically, and psychologically—into new theatres where miscalculation carries far greater consequences.
This remains a developing story.
