India is experiencing a new increase in Covid-19 cases, with active infections rising to 5,364 on Friday, based on data published by the Union Health Ministry at 8 AM. In the past 24 hours, the nation recorded 764 additional cases and four fatalities, with two in Kerala and one each in Punjab and Karnataka.

Kerala continues to be most affected

Kerala continues to be the most affected state, documenting 192 new cases in a single day, with Gujarat (107), West Bengal (58), and Delhi (30) next in line, leading to an overall increase of 498 new infections across the country. Considering the increasing number of cases, the Centre implemented mock drills to assess hospital readiness.

Maharashtra announced 114 new Covid-19 infections on Friday, increasing the total to 1,276 cases since January, alongside one additional death, which raised the toll to 18. Pune (44 cases) and Mumbai (37 cases) recorded the most incidents, followed by Mira Bhayandar and Panvel, each with seven cases.

Delhi recorded 30 new Covid-19 cases, bringing active infections to 592, with no new fatalities since Thursday, maintaining the total death toll at seven since January 1.

Authorities indicate most cases are mild in nature

Authorities indicate that the majority of cases are mild and can be handled at home. Researchers note that although Covid-19 is becoming less severe, sporadic increases could occur as the virus is now endemic and continually evolving. They further stated that there is no reason to worry.

On June 5, hospitals nationwide carried out a practice exercise to evaluate their readiness for managing Covid-19 cases. The central government has instructed all states to guarantee sufficient supply of oxygen, ventilators, isolation beds, and crucial medications to handle a potential Covid-19 increase.

In May 2023, the World Health Organisation formally declared the end of Covid-19’s designation as a public health emergency. Health specialists currently characterize the illness as seasonal, endemic, ongoing, or confined to certain areas.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
