Weather Update in India:
Kerala is currently under a red alert indicating “extremely heavy rainfall” (over 20 cm/24 hrs) for five districts — Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod — especially today (Saturday, July 19) and continuing through Sunday in some areas.
The southwest monsoon is intensifying across Kerala, with multiple severe rainfall alert covering nearly the entire state through at least July 21–23, 2025:
Widespread monsoon activity across southern India is expected this week, with similarly severe rainfall alert in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Red Alert Issued in Some Districts
Red Alerts (extremely heavy rainfall: >204 mm/24 h) for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod across July 18–20, and continuing in Kannur & Kasaragod into July 21.
Orange & Yellow Alerts are in effect until July 21, signaling widespread rain and thunderstorms due to strengthening lower-level westerly/north‑westerly winds.

Major Reasons for Red Alert in Kerala
- Monsoon Surge Intensification: The southwest monsoon has strengthened over Kerala due to Increased moisture inflow from the Arabian Sea and strengthening of westerly winds at lower levels. This has led to widespread, continuous, and intense rainfall across northern and central Kerala.
- Formation of Low-Pressure System: A low-pressure area over central India (Madhya Pradesh/UP) and the Bay of Bengal has increased moisture push into Kerala. This intensifies monsoon activity, bringing heavy rain bands over the state.
