Velamati Chandrasekhara Janardhana Rao, an 86-year-old industrialist from Hyderabad, was stabbed to death at his home by his grandson, allegedly over property distribution, police said Monday.
The incident apparently occurred after a heated disagreement. Kilaru Keerthi Teja, Rao’s 29-year-old grandson, allegedly challenged the chairman of Veljan Group, claiming unfair asset allocation.
According to reports, Teja received a share of the ancestral property worth Rs 4 crore.
The argument gradually escalated, and he stabbed his grandfather 70 times.
During the fight, Teja’s mother, Sarojini Devi, attempted to interfere but was injured. She was brought to the hospital and is now being treated.
Teja had just returned to Hyderabad after completing his master’s degree in the United States and was visiting Rao’s house with his mother when the argument and attack occurred.
Teja has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing.
Janardhana Rao was a well-known industrialist and philanthropist, with contributions spanning numerous areas, such as shipbuilding, energy, and industrial uses.
