Uttarakhand Police has filed a under the Explosive Substances Act and BNS as investigators probe why mining-grade explosives were brought into the remote Sult area of Almora.

November 23, 2025: A large cache of highly explosive gelatin sticks was recovered near a school in Uttarakhand Almora district, prompting a security alert in the region. Police said 161 gelatin sticks, weighing over 20 kg, were found hidden inside bushes in the Sult area, close to the Government Higher Secondary School in Dabara village.

The discovery comes just days after nearly 3,000 kg of explosives were seized in Haryana in connection with the recent Delhi blast, keeping security agencies on edge nationwide.

According to officials, school principal Subhash Singh first spotted suspicious packets in the bushes and immediately alerted the police. Two police teams reached the spot, cordoned off the area and called for the bomb disposal squad and dog squads from Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital.

A canine-led search unearthed multiple packets of gelatin sticks—first near the bushes and later another set around 20 feet away. The bomb disposal unit collected and sealed the explosives and moved them to a secure location.

“Altogether 161 gelatin sticks were recovered near the school. The bomb squad inspected the site, and nearby areas were searched thoroughly,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Devendra Pincha said.

Gelatin sticks, commonly used in mining and construction for blasting rock, are restricted explosive materials. The reason for their presence in the village is not yet known, police said.

A case has been registered against unknown persons under Section 4(a) of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Section 288 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Four police teams have been formed to investigate the matter.

Security agencies across India are already on heightened alert following the Delhi blast and a series of large explosive recoveries. Sources indicate that certain terror modules may have been planning coordinated attacks in major cities, prompting intensified searches nationwide.
