The discovery comes just days after nearly 3,000 kg of explosives were seized in Haryana in connection with the recent Delhi blast, keeping security agencies on edge nationwide.
According to officials, school principal Subhash Singh first spotted suspicious packets in the bushes and immediately alerted the police. Two police teams reached the spot, cordoned off the area and called for the bomb disposal squad and dog squads from Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital.
A canine-led search unearthed multiple packets of gelatin sticksโfirst near the bushes and later another set around 20 feet away. The bomb disposal unit collected and sealed the explosives and moved them to a secure location.
โAltogether 161 gelatin sticks were recovered near the school. The bomb squad inspected the site, and nearby areas were searched thoroughly,โ Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Devendra Pincha said.
Gelatin sticks, commonly used in mining and construction for blasting rock, are restricted explosive materials. The reason for their presence in the village is not yet known, police said.
