The honeymoon murder of an Indore man in Meghalaya took a dramatic turn as police confirmed that his wife planned the killing with the assistance of hired killers, officials reported on Monday.
The 24-year-old woman named Sonam was arrested after she turned herself in at a police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, following the discovery of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s body, which was found discarded in a gorge, according to Meghalaya Police.
Sonam was in relationship with a man
Police sources informed India Today TV that Sonam had a relationship with a man named Raj Kushwaha and supposedly conspired to murder her husband. She hired contract killers from Madhya Pradesh to carry out the crime during what was meant to be a honeymoon in the scenic Sohra area of Meghalaya.
The pair had reached the state last month and disappeared on May 23. A police report indicated that a tourist guide mentioned the newlyweds were last spotted with three other men. Almost 10 days afterward, on June 2, Raja’s corpse was discovered in a deep gorge, and their hired scooter was located left behind in Sohrarim — several kilometers away from the Mawlakhiat parking area — with the keys still present.

Sonam had called her family from Ghazipur
A significant development occurred when Sonam, previously unlocatable, reached out to her family from Ghazipur. Her family subsequently notified Indore Police, who worked with local law enforcement in Uttar Pradesh to locate her.
She was apprehended within hours. An Indore police team is en route to apprehend her.
Meghalaya’s Director General of Police, Idashisha Nongrang, stated that Sonam was reportedly implicated in orchestrating her husband’s murder and had engaged hired assassins to carry out the act. To date, three alleged hired assailants from Madhya Pradesh have been apprehended. A fourth suspect remains at large.
A local tour guide had previously informed police that the couple on their honeymoon was last observed with three unknown men on the day they vanished, an important detail that shifted the investigation towards possible foul play.
Meanwhile, Sonam’s father has dismissed the murder allegation against his daughter and claimed that the Meghalaya Police is fabricating tales. He mentioned that he would meet with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to request a CBI investigation into the issue.
