The council’s study made it clear that its goal was to determine whether minorities were becoming more or less represented in society by looking at the numbers rather than attempting to understand why these changes were occurring.
Share of majority population increased in neighbouring nations
It was discovered that the population of their majority community had increased in a number of neighboring countries. With the exception of the Maldives, every country with a majority of Muslims has seen a growth in the proportion of the majority religious group.
Only Sri Lanka and Bhutan, two of the five non-Muslim majority nations, saw an increase in the percentage of their population who identify as majority.
According to the study’s authors, despite claims to the contrary from some quarters, the data demonstrates that minorities are not only protected but are thriving in India. This is especially noteworthy in light of the larger South Asian neighborhood, where minority populations have alarmingly declined while the share of the majority religious denomination has increased in nations like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Afghanistan.

The majority religious denomination’s share has decreased by about 22% on a global scale. Over the research period, there has been an increase in global diversity. There have been more countries on every major continent where the share of the majority religious denomination has decreased than increased.
The report went on to say that in nations that have seen significant changes, the religion of the majority population has a significant influence.
