Hemant Soren was sworn in as Jharkhand Chief Minister for the fourth consecutive time on Thursday, in a large display of Opposition unity with the presence of key leaders from the INDIA bloc.

The inauguration ceremony took place at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar presided over the oath taking ceremony. The INDIA group, under the guidance of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, attended the event to demonstrate unity.

Numerous leaders, such as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, were present at the ceremony.

Following his arrest earlier this year by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case connected to an alleged land scam, Hemant Soren was feeling low, but he made a remarkable comeback for the INDIA bloc in the recent assembly elections. Despite exit poll forecasts, Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), joined by Congress, RJD, and CPI-ML, won 56 out of 81 Assembly seats.

Following his swearing-in as the 14th Chief Minister of the state, Hemant Soren will likely determine the allocation of different portfolios among the partners of the INDIA bloc in his recently re-elected government. Cabinet positions are expected to be distributed fairly among allies by following a formula of assigning one post for every four MLAs to ensure proportional representation. According to the constitutional guidelines, Jharkhand cannot have more than 12 ministerial positions in total. The Congress is likely to receive 4 positions in this deal, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 1, and the left parties, with two MLAs, may secure one position.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
