What is Pran Pratishtha of idol?
In Sanatan Dharma, the consecration of any idol is considered very important. Pran Pratishtha is done at the time of installation of the idol. In such a situation, Pran Pratishtha means establishing the life force or bringing the deity in to life.
In such a situation, Pran Pratishtha means establishing the life force or bringing the deity into life. Without Pran Pratistha, no idol is considered worthy of worship. It is believed that through Pran Pratishtha, life force is infused into the idol and the idol turns into a deity.
After Pran Pratistha, any idol becomes worthy of worship. After Pran Pratishtha, those gods and goddesses present in idol form are worshiped with full rituals. Many types of religious rituals are performed during this period. The ritual of Pran Pratistha is always performed at an auspicious time.
Method of Pran Pratishtha
The idol is ceremoniously carried to the temple to begin the Pran Pratishtha ritual. After that, they are revived by giving them a milk bath and dousing them with scents. The idol is then placed in the sanctum sanctorum to begin the procedure.
The chief priest at this time dresses the idol and positions it facing east. The priests begin reciting hymns and mantras and carrying out ceremonies once it is properly installed. Initially, the idol’s eyes are opened. The idol is deemed worthy of worship once this procedure is completed. The ceremonies are thought to give the idol life and bring the ruling deity’s heavenly presence to the temple.
