December 19, 2025: The US Justice Department is set to begin releasing long-awaited files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein under a new transparency law, though officials say not all documents will be made public by the Friday deadline.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the department expects to release “several hundred thousand pages” initially, followed by additional batches over the coming weeks. The disclosure is being carried out under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandated the release of records by December 19.
“We expect to release several hundred thousand documents today,” Blanche said in an interview with Fox & Friends. “These will include materials in various formats—documents, photographs and other records—linked to the investigations into Mr Epstein.”

The law, which received near-unanimous support in Congress, requires the Justice Department to publish all unclassified records, communications and investigative materials in its possession related to Epstein’s investigation and prosecution. President Donald Trump signed the bill into law after reversing his earlier opposition to the release of the files.
Officials caution that much of the material is likely to be heavily redacted to protect the identities of victims and third parties. Once the initial tranche is released, further disclosures are expected in stages over the coming weeks.

In the run-up to the deadline, House Democrats have independently released selected batches of documents and photographs obtained from Epstein’s estate. Lawmakers say they are reviewing a cache of roughly 20,000 documents and about 95,000 images, many of which arrived without context.
Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia said his team has been working to redact sensitive information, particularly details that could identify victims.
The documents and images reference a number of high-profile figures, including former US presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Britain’s Prince Andrew. However, officials and lawmakers stress that appearing in the files does not in itself indicate wrongdoing, and many named individuals have denied any involvement in Epstein’s criminal activities.
