Ghaziabad: Two men accused of opening fire at Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s ancestral home in Bareilly were gunned down today in a joint encounter carried out by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Delhi Police Crime Intelligence (CI) Unit. Police said both men were linked to gangster Goldy Brar’s transnational criminal network.
The encounter took place in Ghaziabad after the suspects allegedly opened fire on advancing police teams. In retaliation, security forces returned fire, critically injuring both accused, identified as Ravindra from Rohtak and Arun from Sonipat. They were rushed to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. A Delhi Police personnel was injured in the exchange and is undergoing treatment.
The Bareilly Attack
The case dates back to September 12, when assailants opened fire at the Patani family’s home in Bareilly’s Civil Lines at around 3:45 am. The residence, occupied by Disha’s father, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagdish Singh Patani, her mother, and elder sister Khushbu, was sprayed with bullets. While no one was injured, the brazen attack shocked the quiet neighbourhood.

Soon after the incident, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility via a social media post. Screenshots of his statement went viral, in which he alleged the firing was “retribution” for remarks purportedly made by Disha Patani and her sister about two religious leaders — Sant Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya.
Gangster Network Under Scrutiny
Authorities believe the incident highlights the expanding footprint of organised crime syndicates operating from overseas. Goldy Brar, already wanted in multiple extortion, murder, and terror cases in India, has long been suspected of directing operations through proxies in Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh.
Senior police officials said the encounter marks a major breakthrough in the case but warned that the network behind the assailants remains active. “We are investigating possible local collaborators and financial backers who may have aided the shooters,” a UP Police officer said.
Weapons Recovered
From the Ghaziabad encounter site, police seized a Glock pistol, a Zigana pistol, and several live cartridges — weapons commonly used by organised crime syndicates. Investigators are now probing whether the guns were sourced through interstate smuggling routes.
The twin developments — the firing at a celebrity’s family home and the high-profile encounter — have thrown the spotlight on the challenges India faces in tackling globalised crime networks that use local operatives for targeted attacks.
