Old petrol, diesel cars to be refused fuel from Nov 1

Following the Delhi government’s recent removal of the prohibition on diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old, a directive issued on Monday stated that starting November 1, no fuel will be supplied to vehicles in these categories.

The fuel limitations will be enforced in the five districts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on that same day.

On Tuesday, a meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) took place after the Delhi government requested a review of their choice regarding “no fuel” for End of Life vehicles starting July 1.

Considering the request, the commission concluded it would be wise to enforce the fuel ban across all six cities of the Delhi-NCR at once starting November 1.

The “no fuel” program for end-of-life vehicles will be launched in Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Sonipat starting November 1.

Delhi government launched initiative to combat air pollution on July 1

On July 1, the Delhi government initiated a significant campaign against air pollution by prohibiting fuel distribution to decommissioned vehicles. According to the government directive, petrol stations will not supply fuel to diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old.

The project, led by the CAQM, utilized automated camera systems at fueling stations to identify the age of vehicles. Traffic police were given the authority to seize offending vehicles or to issue citations.

After significant opposition to the decision, the government rescinded the ban, with Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stating that the government intends to implement a new system for old vehicles.

On Sunday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena contacted the Delhi government, requesting a pause on the ban. In the letter to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Saxena stated that the citizens of Delhi were not prepared for such a prohibition.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
