The Delhi Services Act President became a law after President Droupadi Murmu’s approval. The disputed Ordinance on the control of services in the national capital is to be replaced by the Bill, which was just passed into law. Several opposing parties fiercely opposed it.
On August 1, The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. On August 7, the Rajya Sabha approved the Bill. With 131 votes in favor and 102 votes against, the Bill allowing the central government control over bureaucrats in the national capital was approved by the Upper House.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) termed the bill as the most “undemocratic” piece of paper ever tabled in Parliament.
The Bill proposed that actions like suspensions and inquiries of the national capital’s officials would be under the control of the centre. It was tabled in the Parliament amid an uproar in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over the situation in Manipur.
