On Sunday, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police apprehended a suspected serial killer, Ajay Lamba, close to India Gate. Lamba, who had eluded capture for more than ten years, is alleged to be the leader of a gang behind the savage killings of several taxi drivers in Delhi and Uttarakhand.
Police report that Lamba and his three associates aimed at taxi drivers by pretending to be passengers. Following ride bookings, the group would entice unsuspecting drivers to secluded locations in the Uttarakhand hills.
On the hill, the gang allegedly incapacitated the drivers, strangled them, and discarded the bodies in deep gorges. The vehicles that were taken were then trafficked into Nepal and sold. Around 2001, he targeted multiple drivers from regions including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Authorities have found one body, while the remains of at least three additional victims remain undiscovered. Officials are concerned that the gang could be responsible for the vanishings of multiple other taxi drivers throughout the years.
Who is Ajay Lamba?
A 48-year-old man from Delhi, Lamba has relocated frequently during his life. He left school while in sixth grade. Subsequently, he relocated to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, where he encountered two individuals who would eventually become his partners in the killings—Dhirendra and Dilip Negi.
Besides the murders, Lamba also deals with additional criminal cases including theft and unlawful possession of weapons, according to the police.

According to police reports, he resided in Nepal for ten years, from 2008 to 2018, before relocating to Dehradun in Uttarakhand with his family. One of his colleagues, Dhirendra Dilip Pandey, has already been apprehended, while another gang member, Dheeraj, is still on the run.
The authorities reported that the inquiry is in progress and Ajay Lamba is presently being questioned by the police.
