December 8, 2025: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday inaugurated the newly redeveloped Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Hospital in East Delhi’s Dilshad Garden, calling it a “remarkable transformation” of a once-neglected public health facility meant to serve the city’s most marginalised communities.
Saxena, who heads the IRCS Delhi unit, recalled his first visit to the hospital—then a “dilapidated, crumbling structure with rapidly declining patient footfall.” The institution, originally built by the Indian Red Cross Society and overseen nationally by the President of India, had fallen into disrepair over the years.
The LG said the turnaround was made possible through the “strong resolve and determined efforts” of the newly constituted managing body, officials, and sustained support through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding. The redevelopment work was executed by the Delhi Police Housing Corporation, delivering results “few would have imagined even a year ago,” Saxena noted.

The revamped hospital now features a new modern building equipped with expanded waiting areas, OPD and IPD services, a laboratory, physiotherapy facilities, and a cafeteria for patients and attendants. It also houses adequate toilets, competent medical and paramedical staff, and improved patient amenities. Designed to be divyangjan-friendly, the complex includes ramps, elevators, and barrier-free access throughout.
Positioning the facility as a quality centre for maternity and child care, the IRCS hospital will also offer OPD services across various medical specialities through visiting super-specialist doctors. Additional AYUSH and diagnostic services are being introduced, along with a dedicated inpatient canteen.

During the inauguration, Saxena urged the area MLA, Sanjay Goyal, to ensure active community participation in running and supporting the hospital. He also directed officials to maintain the redeveloped complex properly and ensure its long-term upkeep.
“With modern facilities, improved accessibility, and renewed purpose, the IRCS Dilshad Garden Hospital is poised to regain its role as a crucial healthcare destination for Delhi’s underserved,” Saxena said.
