The Delhi High Court ordered the immediate withdrawal of the judicial responsibilities of judge Yashwant Varma on Monday.
This decision, shown in the revised supplementary cause list, comes after recent events related to a fire at his home on March 14, 2025, which resulted in the finding of a significant sum of money.
Justice Varma has rejected the claims, insisting that neither he nor his family possesses the money. He asserted that the incident was a part of a plot to damage his reputation.
He claimed that the cash was supposedly discovered in an outhouse, rather than in the primary building where he and his family live. He has also stated that neither he nor his family ever deposited any cash in the storeroom.
On Saturday evening, the Supreme Court published an investigation report submitted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. The report stated an initial view that the issue requires a more thorough investigation.
The Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, has formed a committee consisting of three senior judges to examine the claims.
