The critical vote count for the assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand is set to commence at 8 a.m. today, with everyone eagerly watching. The first signs of what will happen in these important battles are anticipated to start appearing at 9 a.m.
After facing setbacks in the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP is now hopeful for a strong victory in Maharashtra and Jharkhand following a successful performance in Haryana’s assembly elections. In Maharashtra, the party has formed an alliance with the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the NCP and the Shiv Sena, which is led by Eknath Shinde.
At the same time, the Congress and its allies in the INDIA bloc are working to maintain control of Jharkhand and overthrow the ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra.
Increasing the excitement, outcomes will be announced for 48 assembly bypolls in 13 states and two prominent parliamentary constituencies: Nanded in Maharashtra and Wayanad in Kerala.
Wayanad is also a crucial contest for the Congress, as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into elections gains attention following her brother Rahul Gandhi’s decision to leave the seat he previously held in the Lok Sabha.
The Maharashtra Assembly, which has 288 seats, held a one-phase election on November 20, with a voter turnout of 66.05 percent. Despite a lukewarm turnout of 52.65% in urban centers like Mumbai, tribal-dominated Gadchiroli saw a leading 70% turnout.

The Mahayuti alliance, led by Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena, along with the BJP and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction, is competing for a second term. In contrast, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, consisting of Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar’s NCP, fought hard to make a comeback.
