Outage hits flight operations in India
On Friday, the global Microsoft outages caused extensive flight delays in India, with Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune, and Mumbai airports bearing the brunt of the impact. Blue screen of death error panels appeared on Windows workstations around the world, affecting not only airlines but also organizations such as banks, telecom corporations, TV and radio broadcasters.
The disruption affected multiple airlines’ booking and check-in services, including Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Airlines, and SpiceJet. Several airlines resorted to manual check-in and boarding procedures at airports, requesting that passengers arrive early.
While Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport experienced an average delay of 51 minutes, Delhi’s IGI Airport saw its services delayed by approximately 40 minutes.
Air India stated its systems were “temporarily impacted” owing to the Microsoft outage, which caused delays.
Netizens react to Microsoft outage
Netizen posts from around the world indicate that the Blue screen issue is not limited to a single country.
A person from Malaysia complained about the situation on Reddit, saying, “Malaysia here, 70% of our laptops are down and stuck in boot, HQ from Japan ordered a company-wide shutdown, someone’s getting fireblasted for this shit lmao”
Meanwhile, another Reddit user proposed a possible remedy to the problem, writing, “Update: Can confirm the below stops the BSOD Loop. Go into CMD from recovery options. change to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. Rename Crowdstrike to Crowdstrike_Fucked. Start windows. Its not great but at least that means we can get some windows back…”
