In a major security lapse in the heart of the national capital, Congress MP R Sudha from Mayiladuthurai was the victim of a chain-snatching incident early Monday morning during her routine walk in Delhi’s diplomatic enclave of Chanakyapuri.

The incident occurred near Tamil Nadu Bhavan, where Sudha is staying during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. The assailant, described as a helmet-wearing individual on a motorcycle, allegedly snatched a gold chain weighing approximately 36 grams (4.5 sovereigns) and fled the scene. The 46-year-old MP sustained minor injuries on her neck during the altercation.

Delhi Police has registered an FIR under relevant IPC sections and launched an intensive investigation. Over 300 CCTV cameras in the area are being reviewed by multiple police teams, and security has been heightened around Tamil Nadu Bhavan and other VIP accommodations in the vicinity. Eyewitnesses have also been questioned.

The Chanakyapuri zone is among the most secure in the capital, home to multiple embassies, foreign missions, and high-ranking officials. The breach has raised serious concerns over VIP safety and general law and order in the Lutyens’ Delhi area.

Sudha, a first-time MP elected in 2024, had secured over 5.18 lakh votes from her Tamil Nadu constituency and recently advocated for enhanced rail connectivity to boost temple tourism in the region.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and it remains unclear whether the incident was a random street crime or a premeditated attack targeting a public figure. The case continues to be under investigation.

POWER CORRIDORS

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu commended Power Corridors as a commendable news magazine, affirming that it not only upholds Media Dharma but also fulfills its societal obligations. Power Corridors, as its name implies, delves into realpolitik—examining the essence of influential circles, unraveling the intricacies of political maneuvers, and exploring the pulse of the state’s affairs. However, it transcends mere power dynamics, encompassing a broader spectrum of issues beyond the confines of Delhi’s elite circles.

For PC, which is published by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy, not only highlights the issues of the day but also throws up what ought to be the subjects that the country should be debating about. It reports about the plans, strategies, and agendas of politicians and others; it also sets the agenda for the nation.
