One of Indian Cricket’s most promising young stars, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan celebrates his 27th birthday on Friday, 18 June.
Hailing from Patna, the daring left-handed batsman has established himself as a familiar figure in Indian cricket due to his aggressive batting style and dynamic role as a wicketkeeper.
Ishan Kishan’s Early Life
- Born on 18 July 1998 in Patna, Bihar, Ishan Pranav Kumar Pandey Kishan began his cricketing journey at a local academy in Patna, where his elder brother Raj Kishan encouraged him to play despite facing age-related dismissals.
- With Bihar cricket banned by the BCCI at the time, Ishan shifted to Ranchi in 2013, moving close to MS Dhoni’s neighbourhood. The newly inaugurated JSCA Stadium with turf wickets helped him hone his craft.
- Started playing at Moin‑ul‑Haq Stadium in Patna. At around age 5 or 6, coach Uttam Majumdar recognized his potential when Ishan tagged along with his brother. Though initially rejected for his age, the coach’s first impression was soon replaced by belief after seeing Ishan bat.

- By 2019–20, he had multiple centuries and 50+ scores, maintaining an aggressive strike rate in red-ball cricket in Ranji Trophy.
